The Oak Tree Corner provides a safe and caring community in which children and teens from the greater Dayton area can share the experience of the death of a loved one with their peers. And there, through guidance and support, they can develop inner strength for healthy living with loss.

The Oak Tree Corner is founded on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a supportive and understanding environment. Our society, however, sometimes fails to understand or support the needs of a child and family in grief. Based on that belief, the principles of The Oak Tree Corner are:

      • Grief is a natural reaction to loss of a loved one for children as well as adults.

      • Within each individual is a natural capacity to heal.

      • The duration and intensity of grief are unique for each individual.

      • Caring and acceptance assist in the healing process.
